SDM suspends municipal chairman Hemendra Goswami’s SC certificate in a new twist to the caste controversy. SDM Parvati Patel issued a notice stating that pending the final decision of the state-level scrutiny committee, Hemendra Goswami, the municipal chairman, has suspended other backward class permanent caste certificate. According to the amendment issued in the suspension notification, as per Section 18, any other backward class certificate is suspended until the decision of the high-level scrutiny committee. Instructions have been given regarding action against the use of any benefits from the certificate. SDM has suspended Hemendra Goswami’s permanent social status certificate, prohibiting any use of the suspended certificate. It is worth mentioning that the district-level scrutiny committee has sent the caste case to the state-level scrutiny committee for preliminary action.
The entire issue revolves around the permanent caste certificate of the municipal chairman. Mohit Banjara, a councilor of Maharana Pratap Ward of the Municipal Corporation, has lodged a complaint alleging that Hemendra Goswami’s caste is fake. The complainant claims that Hemendra Goswami belongs to the general category but contested and won the councilor’s election using an OBC caste certificate and later became the chairman.
In this matter, the municipal chairman Hemendra Goswami alleges that he is facing pressure from his political opponents to take action against him. When the district-level scrutiny committee sent the case to the high-level scrutiny committee for preliminary action, why is the final decision not awaited? It is beyond comprehension whose pressure is prompting such action to be taken.
