New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea of TV news anchor Rohit Ranjan on Thursday, July 7 as the anchor is facing several FIRs for playing a doctored clip of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“List it tomorrow”, a vacation bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and J.K. Maheshwari said when senior advocate Siddharth Luthra appeared for Rohit Ranjan. Luthra sought an urgent listing and said multiple FIRs had been registered against Ranjan.
Meanwhile, a team of Raipur Police lead by Senior Superintendent of Police, Raipur, Prashant Agarwal claimed that Rohit Ranjan is absconding and efforts are on to trace him. Raipur Police had gone to Ranjan’s place on early Tuesday morning, however, his residence was locked. Later, it was clarified that he was arrested by Noida Police yeaterday.
After almost 12 hours of questioning, the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police released TV anchor Rohit Ranjan on bail, late Tuesday night. Noida Police issued an official statement that said that a team of police brought Mr. Ranjan from his Ghaziabad residence to Noida in connection with an FIR filed in Sector 20 Police station. The statement further said that he was arrested on the basis of evidence and further investigation is underway.
