Bilaspur. Teachers have won the battle for promotion in the Supreme Court. In the hearing held in the Supreme Court, the special leave petition filed by the Chhattisgarh government was rejected. This petition was against the decision of the division bench of the Chhattisgarh High Court, in which the Chhattisgarh government was directed to pay the outstanding amount arising due to the upgradation in the pay scale of the respondent Sona Sahu. Sona Sahu had served as an assistant teacher for more than 10 years without promotion.

The Supreme Court refused to consider the argument of the State of Chhattisgarh that Sona Sahu is not entitled to receive the assured Vritti Vikas/Kramaonnati pay scale as she had received time pay scale on completion of 7 years. The Supreme Court accepted the argument of Respondent No. 1 that the benefit of time pay scale was withdrawn by the State Government on the pretext of revision of pay scale in 2013 and she had not received any upgradation for 10 years. The Supreme Court also considered that the 2017 order of the General Administration Department providing the benefit of Kramaonti pay scale to all teachers who have completed 10 years of service is also applicable to those teachers who have been absorbed in the School Education Department from the Panchayat Department.

After considering the arguments of both the parties, the Supreme Court refused to accept the special leave petition filed by the Chhattisgarh government and upheld the decision of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Let us tell you that Sona Sahu has received her dues from the Panchayat Department, but her dues from the School Education Department are still pending. To get the said dues, Sona Sahu has filed a contempt petition before the Chhattisgarh High Court and the court has directed the concerned Secretary of the School Education Department to appear in person in the court on 19.03.2025.
