Gaurela-Pendra: The monsoon has developed into being very active in Chhattisgarh, where the intensity of rainfall has been constant over the last 2 days. The Meteorological Department has warned of more rainfall over the next five days meaning that the rain is expected to continue in the region. The flooding has become really persistent and has negatively affected the lives of people, most especially in the district of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, which has led to a road being washed away.
The rain has led to the washout of the road between Gaurela and Amarkantak in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi. This is a connecting Chhattisgarh to Madhya Pradesh, and due to this particular road blockage, there has not been any movement of vehicles for the last 14 hours. The hilly regions have received heavy rains, which has tended to the situation; mainly, the specific area of Jwaleshwar Ghat in Pendra, the road near Chuktapani, has been drowned.
Temporary Road Destructed
To the list of misfortunes, one can also add a temporary bridge has been built across a stream in that area, which the strong water flows have also washed away. This has added to the previous loss of the bridge, with several regions and people’s lives affected by their ability to travel.
Weather Alerts
As per the orange alert for some parts of Chhattisgarh issued by the Meteorological Department, there is heavy rain in Kanker, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, Kabirdham and Bemetara. The orange alert typically means people should be ready for storms with strong wind, heavy rain, and floods. Furthermore, a yellow alert has been sounded for Dhamtari, Gariaband, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, and Rajnandgaon so people should prepare for the weather that’s around the corner.
The persistent floods have almost paralyzed activities due to the continuous heavy rains, which have exposed the residents to dangerous floods. The road washout and bridge collapse are good indicators of how deformities can be intensified due to extreme weather conditions. The authorities are trying to resolve the problem; however, it is difficult to cope with the perpetual rainfall as well as constant predictions of more to come.
