Raipur: Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has planned a dog crematorium, a concept rarely found in India. The dog shelter cum crematorium in the new canine shelter at Sondongri, overseen by the District Collector and Municipal Commissioner. The shelter, accommodating 50 dogs, will include veterinary facilities and an operation theater, with a completion deadline initially set for July 2024.
The construction work of the dog shelter house located in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ward No. 2 in Sondongri area under Zone No. 8 of Raipur Municipal Corporation is progressing rapidly. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abinash Mishra has directed the officials of Zone 8 to complete this project on time with priority.
In this dog shelter house, 50 kennels are being built for sick dogs, which will provide proper treatment and care to the dogs. Apart from this, a doctor’s chamber, waiting hall for dogs, operation theatre and a room for keeping operation equipment are being constructed in the shelter house. The process of installing a crematorium machine for the cremation of dead dogs is also underway so that the dead dogs can be cremated with respect.
At present, the construction and development work is almost 50 percent complete. The commissioner has directed the officials to complete this project within the next one month. This initiative of the Municipal Corporation will improve the care and health condition of the dogs in Sondongri area, and arrangements for the cremation of dead dogs will also be ensured.
