Raipur: The Agriculture Department took major action against the rice millers of the Raipur district on Saturday. A team from the agriculture and the food department of the state seized 34,647 quintals of paddy and 9,693 quintals of rice worth Rs 9 crore from rice millers. A case of violation of Chhattisgarh Custom Milling Rice Procurement Order 2016 has been lodged against rice millers.

On the direction of the district collector Saurabh Kumar, Raipur Food Controller Tarun Rathore said the action was taken on five rice millers who did not deposit rice after custom milling at the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

It reported that out of the 83 millers that procured paddy from the government at minimum support price; 5 failed to deposit their paddy to the Civil Supplies Corporation based on which the department has taken action against them. 

A team raided the Kanha rice industry, and Salasar Balaji rice Agrotech at Arang, Hanuman rice industry and Janata rice mill at Kharora and Girdhar Gopal rice industry Nayapara.

On the direction of the Raipur collector, due to non-compliance with the government’s rules, food department officials seized huge amounts of rice and paddy from the millers. Collector Saurabh Kumar has directed all the millers to deposit the rice at Food Corporation of India  after custom milling rice within a week.
