Gariyaband: A major anti-Naxal operation was conducted in the district, and new details have emerged. Guddu, a Naxal commander with a reward of ₹ 25 lakh, and his wife Anju were among those killed in the encounter. Baldev, alias Guddu, was a State Committee Member (SCM) and Anju DCM in the District committee. Inspector General (IG) Amresh Mishra will arrive in Mainpur today to meet the troops involved in the operation.
It happened in the Bhalao Diggi forest area of Kulhadi Ghat and ended on Monday. The Naxals’ bodies were brought to the district headquarters on Tuesday night by security forces. After this, two more bodies were recovered from the encounter site – that of a male and a female Naxal in uniform. They identified the deceased. During the operation, the security forces had recovered an AK-47 rifle, a country-made rifle and a big cache of Naxal materials from the site. The operation took a toll of 16 Naxals.
Also, the troops killed a Central Committee member, Jayaram alias Chalapati, who carried a bounty of ₹1 crore. Special zonal committee member Guddu and another central committee member, Manoj, were also killed. In Odisha state, Manoj had ₹ 1 crore and Guddu its bounty of ₹25 lakh. The successful operation is a bonanza for the security forces and a serious blow to the Naxal movement in the region.
IG’s visit is viewed in terms of gestures to the morale of manpower and involved personnel in the execution of such high-stakes missions. The operation shows that the security forces are still committed to the securing of peace and stability in the region.
