Sukma: A reward-carrying Naxal was gunned down in an encounter in Sukma district, CG Police officials said on Friday.
The Naxal identified as Rakesh Madkam, a member of the Katekalyan area committee of CPI (Maoist) was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh and was wanted in connection with eight cases of violence. A country-made weapon was also recovered from the possession of the Naxal, officials added.
IG Bastar range Sunderraj P in a statement giving details of the encounter stated that the DRG forces acted on a tip off recieved anfd launched an anti-Naxal operation along the inter-district border during which fierce battle took place and brought down one Naxal. “However, after a brief encounter, the ultra escaped but security forces continued searching the area on Thursday night,” the IG said in the statement, adding that the security forces were combing the area on Friday when the encounter broke out.
