Ramen Deka was sworn in as the tenth Governor of Chhattisgarh today in a solemn ceremony. This included voicing a plea, which was taken by the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court Ramesh Sinha and the swearing-in of another. This event was attended by the Chief Minister of the state, Vishnu Deo Sai; Speaker of the assembly, Dr Raman Singh; former Chief Minister of the state, Bhupesh Baghel; and with a large number of cabinet ministers, lawmakers, officials and many other dignitaries.
Interestingly, prior to occupying his post, Governor Ramen Deka went to Kali temple for offerings to the deity. There he made offerings and prayed to the gods so that the state may be prosperous and healthy. His wife, Rani Deka Kakoti, and other family members were accompanying him during the religious auspicious occasion. This gesture of the Governor demonstrated his politico-religious and cultural interventionist strategies in the region.
Ramen Deka’s Political Career
Ramen Deka was born on 1st March 1954; he is one of the senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which originated in Assam, India. He is a first-generation politician belonging to the BJP, and he joined politics in 1980. For the past decades, Deka has served in many key positions in the BJP organisation, which includes being the President of Assam BJP along with a National Secretary.
In terms of politics, Deka, for the first time, got elected as a Member of Parliament from Mangaldoi in Assam in 2009. He was re-elected for a second term in 2014 and acted as a parliamentarian for two terms in a row. Facts have it that Mr. Rajnath Singh has had leadership experiences and exposure with the BJP, which have influenced his career and Indian politics.
