Sukma: An ancient Ram temple in Chhattisgarh has been reopened, 21 years after it was shut by Naxals.
The temple is located in the remote village of Kerlapenda in the Naxal-affected Chintalnar region of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma.
The ancient temple, situated approximately 90 km from the troubled district headquarters of Sukma in Bastar division, was closed two decades ago on the orders of Naxalites who were active in the area. Today, it was reopened, cleaned and the marble idols of Ram, Sita and Laxman were worshipped after 21 years.
As reported by the Times of India, Maoists threatened the villagers in 2003, instructing that the temple be shut down and forbidding any worship activities. The naxals reportedly were using the temple for various purposes, including meetings and movement.
