Raipur: The long-awaited construction of the foot overbridge or Skywalk between Shastri Chowk, Jaistambh Chowk, and Ambedkar Hospital Chowk in Raipur is due to resume in the coming week. After being incomplete for eight years, the ambitious project is now being handled by PSAAN Constructions Pvt. Ltd., a local construction company that just signed the contract to finish it.

The Raipur Public Works Department (PWD) has given the work order, and the agency is expected to complete the project as indicated in the timeline. It will cost an extra ₹37.75 crore to complete the remaining steps in construction. Experts say that responsibility will lie in making sure that the main and essential parts of the skywalk are completed before any other area. This consists of constructing the rotary at Shastri Chowk, which will be key for connecting the roads.

Contractors have to follow the new agreement on administrative payments and the previous set of drawings and designs they received. The work cannot be assigned to others to do unless there are specific approvals as set by the contract. The department is ensuring that all non-SOR (Schedule of Rates) items listed in the tender are being properly reviewed and signed off by the required departmental staff.

At the moment, approximately 60% of the skywalk’s building is finished, and about ₹50 crore has been invested in the project so far. The balance of the work, 40%, is yet to be done and will be part of the new stage of the project. It was clarified by officials that carrying out and supervising the work will strictly follow the company’s standards, making sure the results are of high quality.

Raipur residents are now hopeful that their iconic skywalk will soon be built after this decision.
