Police in Raipur have recently arrested three drug peddlers coming from Jharkhand with 3.9 kg of opium worth rupees 22 lakh.
The three persons arrested hail from Jharkhand, and one of them is from Bhilai. Police also arrested another accused from this gang, originally from Jharkhand, but he is still absconding. Local agents charged with the responsibility of distributing the Opium in Raipur have not been detained. After that, both accused were arrested, and all three were sent to judicial custody.
The arrested individuals were Mohammad Jasid Mir, Lev Minj, and Jaswant Singh. The arrest was conducted near the RDA office at sector 5 Kaushalya Mata Vihar. First, research indicated that the opium was from Jharkhand’s Gumla district, which both Jasid and Lev Minj are from. Jaswant Singh, 65 years old, welcome to the Kurud Housing Board Colony, Jamul Bhilai.
The case also raised concern since this is not the first time opium trafficking has been conducted from Jharkhand to Raipur. Two other accused were arrested two weeks back in Shyam Nagar, Raipur, for similar acts committed with opium purchased from Jharkhand. The sources suggested that often, drug cartels who supply drugs in Chhattisgarh and other nearby States obtain drugs through this supply chain from Jharkhand.
Moreover, based on the FIR, an individual, Mahesh Sahu, has also been accused of the crime. The police are carrying out other investigations in search of other local associates and any other allies linked to this drug ring. The recent arrests are evidence to clearly show that the authorities are determined in their fight against drug traffickers and their networks who transport the banned products into the region.
