Raipur: On Thursday, the Chhattisgarh police intensified their crackdown on illegal intruders in a similar vein to Durg and Kawardha operations. Raipur plays host to the latest drive, with authorities attempting to find and verify the residents of the city who don’t have proper papers.

In this large-scale operation, police have arrested about 2,000 suspects they term ‘small birds’ and driven them in buses to their police headquarters for thorough interrogation. As Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Lal Umed Singh is directly supervising the process hand in hand with other senior officials, first to make sure that the whole investigation is made by police and in a lawful manner.

Focus on Unregistered Residents

Mostly, authorities focus on those people living in other areas of the city without registering their stay. A lot of people come from Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Northeast India, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and many other rural parts of India. Police teams are doing the checks by taking Aadhaar card fingerprints and comparing them with official records.

Strict Verification and Legal Action

The operation aims to identify, verify, and take action against suspicious outsiders,’ said SSP Lal Umed Singh. Legal action will be taken, if individuals are found to be staying illegally or kept up unlawful exercises.

This effort is part of a statewide effort to thwart unauthorized migration and potential security risks. In this regard, the police will continue to carry out their verification drives and make sure residents comply with legal residency requirements in various parts of the state.

Officials promise to issue more updates about this ongoing crackdown once they have analyzed the data and taken the needed legal steps.
