Raipur: Chhattisgarh on Wednesday received heavy rains in the capital Raipur. As the monsoon arrived four days ahead of the forecast issued by the Met Department, several areas of the state were submerged in heavy rains. The rain lasted for five years in areas of Jal Vihar Colony, Mother Teresa Ward, Tatibandh in Raipur.
As of Friday, the Met Department predicted moderate rainfall in areas of Jashpur, Raigad, Korba, Janjgir, Balodabazar, Dhamtari, Kanker, Narayanpur, and Mahasamund in the coming 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in Gariaband, Bastar, Kondagaon, Bijapur, Sukma districts.
Raipur recorded a temperature of 28.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday following heavy rainfall. This was 11 degrees below normal that the fort usually records.
District Bematra received rainfall of 16 cm, while Mahasamund received 12 cm. Guru and Dhamtari received 11 and 10 cm respectively.
RMC on 3 June prepared a standard operating procedure to tackle waterlogging especially in low-lying areas and roads or lanes having no drains or poor drainage systems. The civic body claimed to have completed the cleaning of 20 sewage drains before the onset of the monsoon to ensure that there is no water logging in the capital.
India recorded 21% excess rain between June 1 and 9, according to official data, with the rainfall in May being the second-highest since 1901 at 107.9mm. The highest rainfall for May was recorded in 1990 at 110.7 mm.
