Raipur: The Inspector General of Police (IG) of Raipur range, Amresh Kumar Mishra, organised a top-level conference at the police office in the presence of police officials of five districts, Superintendents and Additional Superintendents, in which organised drug trafficking and mammoth cases of cyber crime were discussed and strict instructions given.
The IG directed gazetted police officers, during the meeting, to personally conduct investigations regarding the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He has stressed the establishment of technically literate teams at the police station so that they can effectively deal with the cases of cybercrime. These groups will collaborate at the range level to create prompt detection and response to cyber fraudsters. Mishra also gave instructions to police officials to block and track mobile numbers and bank accounts involved in such fraud so that the network of cybercriminals is completely interrupted.
The IG checked the current state of the campaign to clear the pending cases, stating that approximately 1,850 cases have been cleared during the past six months out of close to 2,100 cases registered until 2023, which was recognisable. He encouraged the exhibition of constant surveillance of older pending cases and newly recorded crimes with a focus on quality investigations in synergy with the courts, medical units, etc., to help speed up the outcomes.
To deal with future fests, Mishra spoke of beefing up the law and order machinery that included proactive observation of those engaged in criminal acts like arms contravention and attacks. He ordered that such people should be placed on the comprehensive list of habitual offenders and be subjected to harsh measures as promulgated in legislation such as the NSA and the district banning acts.
The meeting also identified preventive strategies in policing that included lighting the sensitive regions, installation of CCTV cameras, and increasing regular patrolling. Moreover, observance of traffic regulations was emphasised, particularly the use of 100 per cent helmets among government employees and officers as a way of minimising road accidents.
