Raipur: Major shopping complexes fall under the target of the crackdown for parking violations, and the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has stepped them up. The corporation has embarked on a position of strictness, not only imposing fines but ultimatums to complex owners and operators to bring back proper parking facilities.

As part of this ongoing campaign, authorities also learnt Dr Jauklar has converted the parking area of his building in the Chaube Colony area into a café called ‘Sprout House.’ The Zone Commissioner took immediate action that he has gave him a one-day ultimatum to bring the parking facility back.

In the Samta Colony main market area, five shops – Bikaner Sweets, Goli Fast Food, Apna Mart, Juicy Factory and Pohe Wala, have also been sealed as they have no adequate parking arrangements. The warnings were ignored repeatedly, and within days of the outbreak of the crisis, the destroyer was ordered to Grenville.

What is interesting is that the crackdown began only after MLA Rajesh Munat had a strong word with the authorities in the western legislative constituency. At times like these, in response, the Zone 7 officials launched a strict enforcement drive in the Samta and Ram Chaube Colony area of the main road.

Apart from this, Sulabh Milk Depot has also been served an ultimatum to make proper parking arrangements. Not only have several other shop owners across the street been served notices, seeing that they need to adhere to parking regulations, but several others have visited the USAID Regional Office to protest.

In another related action against cleanliness enforcement, shop ‘Poha Point’ in the Katora Talab area was fined Rs 5,000 for throwing garbage in the place. The shop owner has been given a stern warning to keep his shop clean or else he will incur more penalties.

This is part of the ongoing drive of municipal corporations to better the urban infrastructure, reduce congestion and for public convenience in the commercial areas. Similar enforcement measures on violations and improving urban management are set to continue at the authorities’ discretion throughout the city.
