Raipur: There has been a big controversy that arose after a fire erupted in the office of Raipur District Education Officer (DEO) where Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Deepak Baij alleged that the event was a big conspiracy. In an interview with the media, Baij alleged that the fire was deliberately lit to burn important papers to cover up graft. According to him, financial records and appointment-related documents were some of the key files that were burnt in the fire.
Baij also questioned the act of the administration after the incident whereby the office building of DEO was demolished before even the administration was able to undertake an investigation into the incident. He described this action as very suspicious and said that it was an effort to destroy evidence that was associated with financial abnormalities and recruiting-related frauds. In his view, the demolition of the structure prior to the probe is a major question of the intentions, and accountability of the government.
The same media interaction saw the chief of PCC Deepak Baij comment on the recent dinner diplomacy in the home of BJP MP Brijmohan Agrawal in Delhi. According to Baij, Agrawal is a senior leader of the BJP who has frequently criticized the poor policies of the government, corruption and the recently reported Jamboree scam. He argued that the ruling party seems to be in the back foot as the allegations and the pressure of the citizens are piling up.
Baij insinuated that the meeting at the Delhi home of Agrawal, was a strategy and a tactic in the new politics of the BJP to contain the internal discontents and keep the harm at check. He termed it as a planned political strategy but not a social get together. Sushil Anand Shukla, the head of communication department in Congress was also present in the media briefing and shared the same concerns regarding transparency and government in the state.
