He also wished people on the occasion of Kartik Purnima on twitter . “Best wishes to all the people on the holy festival of Kartik Purnima. On this auspicious occasion, I wish the people of the country happiness and prosperity” – his Tweet read (in hindi).

Kartik Purnima, the 15th lunar day of Kartik, is a Hindu, Jain, and Sikh cultural festival, which is celebrated every year on the 15th lunar day of the Hindu month of Kartik, on the Purnima (full moon day).

The day is also known as Tripuri Purnima/Tripurari Purnima and is sometimes referred to as Dev Deepawali (the festival of lights of the gods). Sikh people celebrate the day as Prakash Parva worldwide, that is Guru Purab or Guru Nanak Jayanti, while Karthika Deepam is celebrated in South India and Sri Lanka.

The day of Kartik Purnima is dedicated to the ‘Pitrs’ (dead ancestors); through holy dips that many Hindus take at the nearby river or canal, they pray for their dead ancestors. Some believe that the origins of the festival lie in ancient ages when a sacrifice called ‘Shakamedh’ used to be performed by the kings in order to attain victory over their enemies.
