Chhattisgarh: The Raipur city police on Friday issued a notice to BJP leader and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Dr Raman Singh and asked him to remain available at his residence on May 24 for recording his statement in the Covid toolkit case.
As per the notice, the Raipur Police arrived at the former CMs residence at Maulshree Vihar, VIP Road. Besides the in-charge of the civil lines police station, two other inspectors also arrived along with CSP Nasr Siddiqui. As per the sources, the session lasted for not more than 10 minutes, during which Singh justified his post as his right to freedom of expression. It is also reported that the former CM denied providing access to his Twitter account citing privacy.
Here is an excerpt of the interrogation:
Police: Is the Twitter account that has received the complaint yours?
Dr Raman: Yes, that Twitter account is my personal property.
Police: Provide us access to your Twitter account?
Dr Raman: My Twitter page, the messages and comments posted therein are publicly available, which can be read by you on any platform. My Twitter account contains personal information, so it’s not legally right to give you access to the account, it violates my fundamental rights to privacy.
Police: Where did you get the AICC Research Project and congress documents?
Dr Raman: The documents I posted on 18th May were already publicly available and were being circulated.
Police: Give us information about the communication you have made to the other accused (Sambit Patra) using the police-Congress toolkit exposed hashtag?
Dr Raman: All the communication syllables related to hashtags are publicly available on my Twitter page.
In an official statement after the interrogation, Dr Raman said,” What I tweeted on May 18 is. an expression of my views The FIR on me is baseless. The attempt to suppress my voice is highly unconstitutional and condemnable. The manner in which the questions have been asked shows that the powers of the police have been misused to protect the false credibility of the Congress Party. This case is being done to scare me personally and tarnish my image with political hatred by suppressing my voice.”
