Raipur: In the Raipur Lok Sabha constituency, a high profile constituency in Chhattisgarh, during the third round of the counting of the votes, BJP’s Brijmohan Agrawal has emerged a leader and has got a margin of more than forty thousand votes. Earlier, Agrawal was ahead of his rival Kanhai Ashok by 19,532 votes in Raipur, after the counting was done for the first phase. The initial trends of the Lok Sabha election results are now available for a brief look. In Chhattisgarh the trend of counting of votes is from postal ballots to EVMs for all five states and 11 Lok Sabha seats.

In the Bastar lok sabha seat out of the 5,75,883 polled votes the Congress candidate Kawasi Lakhma is leading by 2,361 votes. Lakhma is seriously challenged by BJP candidate Mahesh Kashyap. This election was held in three phases in the state of Chhattisgarh to cover all the 11 Lok Sabha seats. The first phase of voting was conducted on 19 April in Bastar, the second phase of voting was conducted on 26 April which included the districts of Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund and Kanker. The third phase of the elections was conducted on 7 May in Surguja, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, Korba, Bilaspur Durg and Raipur.

Out of total contestants, there are 11 candidates are in the direct competition in Bastar Lok Sabha constituency. This involves those who have been nominated by a national political party, a regional political party or are Independent candidates. These eleven candidates have to bow to over 14 lakh voters and it is the election results which will show how these voters have behaved to them. During the first phase of voting the restricted franchisee net in the Bastar region was recorded at 68. 29% was recorded.

As of now, the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency consists of 1,466,337 total electorates of which 768088 are women, 698197 are men, and 52 are of the third gender. This mixed group of voters plays a rather sensitive role in the determination of the election results in this particular area.
