Raipur: For the second time in a single month, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress President, has graced Chhattisgarh with his presence. Upon his arrival in Raipur, he was warmly received by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at the airport. Subsequent to deliberations with local leaders at the Mayfair Resort, Rahul embarked on a journey to Bilaspur by car. Accompanying him on this excursion is a convoy of several prominent leaders.
In Bilaspur, Rahul Gandhi is slated to launch the Housing Justice Scheme, a program of paramount importance that is set to take place in Takhatpur. This division holds particular significance, boasting the highest number of 25 assembly seats within the state. As a result, political attention is firmly fixed on this region. Comprising a total of eight districts and 25 assembly seats, the Congress triumphed in 14 seats in the 2018 elections, while the BJP secured 15 seats, seven of which were within the Bilaspur division. The BSP and the Jogi Congress collectively captured four seats, with the latter securing two.
The influence of the Jogi Congress is particularly evident in the Kota, Marwahi, and Lormi seats of the division. At the same time, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) plays a pivotal role in Masturi, Beltara, and Bilha seats. Notably, the Janjgir-Champa district presents a distinct political landscape, with the BSP exerting considerable influence in six assembly seats. The BSP’s presence is palpable in Pamgarh and Jaijaipur, where the party is deemed influential.
The BJP has raised concerns, alleging that 16 lakh underprivileged families in the state have been denied housing due to the government’s perceived indifference. In a bid to mitigate potential damage, the state government has introduced the Chhattisgarh Housing Justice Scheme, aiming to address the housing needs of rural beneficiaries. Approximately seven lakh people across the state are expected to benefit from this initiative. Given the impending assembly elections, this strategic move by the Congress has the potential to make a significant impact.
