Lucknow: After landing at the Amausi airport in Lucknow, Rahul Gandhi state at 20 minutes dharna for being restrained to use his own vehicle to travel to Lakhimpur Kheri. According to sources from the ground, it is reported that the UP government had engaged government vehicles to transport Congress leader and his allies and heightened security deploying army and police officials.
The Congress leaders slammed the UP Government hinting nefarious intentions to impede their visit. However, after much of the scuffle between the Congress members present at the airport and the police deployed, Mr Gandhi’s convoy left for Lakhimpur in his own vehicle. Several Congress party members arrived at the airport and followed the leader towards heading towards Lakhimpur.
So far there has been no information on whether or not Ms Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who has been released from detention at Sitapur guest house will join Mr Gandhi.
On being asked for reasons to meet the farmer families, the leader asserted that they wanted to show solidarity with the bereaved farmer families.
All India Congress committee National General Secretary KC Venugopal on Tuesday had sought permission in writing from the UP government to allow Congress leaders to visit Lakhimpur. Rahul Gandhi departed to Lucknow from Delhi Airport along with Punjab CM Charanjit Singh and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Congress functionaries Randeep Surjewala and K.C. Venugopal.
