Raipur– In a significant political development, Premchand Patel, a member of the Marar Patel community, secured a resounding victory in the Katghora Legislative Assembly constituency. This marked the first time a candidate from the Marar Patel community received a ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Patel contested against Purushottam Kunwar, a prominent Congress party leader, and triumphed with a substantial lead, garnering 16,900 votes more than his opponent.

With over 30 lakh residents in Chhattisgarh, the Marar Patel community celebrated this historic win as a moment of pride. Ishwar Patel, the district president of the society in Raipur, highlighted the unprecedented nature of the victory, emphasizing the joy that resonates within the Patel community.

Following Premchand Patel’s triumph, social media platforms buzzed with congratulatory messages and well-wishes from community members. Key figures such as Ishwar Patel, the district president of Raipur, are joining the chorus of accolades. Patiram Patel is the secretary of the Marar Patel Association. Atma Narayan Patel, Ramfal Patel, Jhadiram Patel, and Hemant Sahu from the youth wing visited the BJP state office in Raipur to felicitate Premchand Patel with a token of appreciation.

In response to complaints from local villagers, the SDM of Abhanpur took swift action, initiating disciplinary proceedings against the Panchayat members. Subsequently, a vote of no confidence was scheduled for December 4, with Suraj Banchhor appointed the presiding officer for the polling process.

During the voting, 12 members supported the no-confidence motion, while only 4 voted in favor of Sarpanch Devangan. Consequently, in an immediate action, the SDM removed Sarpanch Devangan from office and appointed Raju Yadav as the acting Sarpanch. The vacant Sarpanch position will undergo a by-election within the next 6 months.
