To honor its fallen colleague, Officer Sh. Sarm Ullah’s son, Ashvik Marabi (9), was appointed a constable under compassionate grounds during duty by the GPM district police department. This certification was made on April 4 by SP Bhavna Gupta and the department’s tactful approach on the families who lost their loved ones during the pandemic is shown through this.
Constable Devharchand Marabi, who used to be posted at the GPM District for a long period under the orders of the Bilaspur Range Superintendent of Police, had been on the transfer to Bilaspur, still serving there for the past two years. Unfortunately, that day October 20, 2023 was the last day one the battlefield and for now we are left behind many things such as the only son of Ashvik.
Police service appointments by the compassionate provision (which is also typical in the other government departments) empower a guardian, who is a family member of a deceased police officer, to appoint to the rank of a machine gunner if this person is a minor. While this measure is taken by the police bureauracy and other government branches, and these factors are evident, there are discrepancies. In situations where the deceased Police officers’ children are not yet adults, they will be placed on the Constable for the remaining period that they are not considered Adult.
Lenox Mandavi, the posts have been granted to an officer since he is only 9-year-old which means he will receive a monthly half salary of a normal constable. He will just need to report to the police station every 30 days and sign the attendance record, and the rest of his time will be provided for his studies. The police department agreed to facilitate his enrollment in any educational activities or programs available.
In sum, when Ashvik Marabi is 18, he goes on being the constable and he comes to get the full salary. Kindness serves two purposes: the first one is the pending family of the past police constable while the latter one is through nurturing the next generation.
