Sakti: On Friday, Sakti Police formed separate teams and conducted raids at three scrapyards, including Kallu’s in Rajapara, where a large quantity of scrap and two trucks loaded with scrap were found. Subsequently, the police seized the two trucks filled with scrap and took them to the station. Additionally, at Ward No. 5, police crackdown led to the discovery of a significant amount of scrap at Mehboob Khan’s scrap shop in Gawdam, along with gas cutting machines and cylinders.
Police demanded bills for scrap items from scrap dealers who failed to produce them, leading to the seizure of goods. Furthermore, another police team proceeded towards Bagbudhwa village, where suspicious iron scrap was discovered at Gidheshwar Gabel’s location, leading to its confiscation.
Sakti TI Vivek Sharma revealed that the police received information regarding the illegal trade of large scrap items from unauthorized scrap yards in the city. Vehicles were being dismantled illegally, and the scrap was being sold. Acting on this information, Sakti Inspector Manish Kanwar formed three teams and conducted raids at three scrap yards in Rajapara, Purenpara, and Bagbudhwa. During the raids, police found a large quantity of suspicious items such as coolers, tin sheets, iron sheets, iron goods, channel gates, almirahs, and several tons of suspicious goods loaded in two trucks.
At the scene, yard operators Kallu Manihar, Mehboob Khan, and Gidheshwar Gabel failed to produce any documents. Consequently, the police seized the suspicious items and trucks, initiating further action. The seized scrap is valued in lakhs, according to the police.
In Sakti, the scrap business of two major scrap dealers is thriving rapidly, involving transactions ranging from needles to ships. These scrap dealers have been operating their illegal businesses in the city for a long time, with no police action due to political protection. Consequently, stolen goods have been easily smuggled here for years. Moreover, government office materials are being turned into scrap and stationed here. With the change in government in Chhattisgarh and the arrival of a new SP in Sakti district, the raids on scrap dealers’ locations have become more frequent.
