Chhattisgarh: The State Police officials on Thursday morning arrested a computer operator for allegedly procuring paddy through illegal means. The accused had been absconding for 7 months.
The accused, identified as Dinesh Vastrakar, had duped nearly 1510 quintals of paddy from the Khodari paddy procurement centre. According to officials, the paddy that was duped by the accused cost Rs 28.48 lakhs.
In 2021, the state ranked second across the country, in terms of overall paddy procurement of 92 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), only behind Punjab’s 202.82 LMT and fourth amongst the contributors to the central pool of rice through the Food Corporation of India (FCI), sending 39.76 LMT of the grain, behind Punjab that sent 135 LMT, UP that provided 44.78 LMT and Odisha that gave 42.22 LMT.
