Chhattisgarh: In a virtual event organized at 11 am, PM Modi today would inaugurate the newly constructed campus at the National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM), Raipur. The announcement was made in a press release from the PMO on Monday. In the same event, PM Modi would also launch 35 varieties of crops that are curated by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to swedge the climate changes and the advancing nutritional crisis in India. State CM Baghel would solicit the event virtually through video conferencing from his residence office, Raipur.
The Centre in2013 had approved of establishing the National Institute of Biotic Stress Management in Raipur after an elaborate discussion. Then State Agriculture Minister Chandrashekar Sahu had reported that several states were in the race to get the project, while the Union Govt gave it consent to Chhattisgarh.
The NISBM was the maiden project in 2013 to address the impact of biotic stress and harness the potential of emerging tools of biotechnology in agriculture. The state govt had allotted 105 acres of land for the institute in Baronda, about 25 km from Raipur, while the Union Govt has sanctioned funds of Rs 250 crore for the first phase of setting up the institution. The Institute governed by ICAR, in its recent bid towards growth announced the PG courses for the academic session 2020-2021, the PMO had stated in its press release.
