Chhattisgarh: After the communal violence prompted authorities to impose a curfew on Tuesday, an uneasy calm prevailed in Kawardha town in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district today. There is heavy police deployment in all the public places in Kawardha as a precautionary measure.
Mohit Garg, Superintendent Police said that “no violence was reported after Tuesday evening. Heavy police forces have been deployed in the city. Police are scanning all the videos of violence and identifying the miscreants and the process of registering FIRs is going on”.
He further added that around 70 people have been arrested and now the situation is under control as peace talks between the two communities are going on. Based on the video footage, 58 out of these 70 arrested have been identified for causing violence.
Earlier on Tuesday, a rally led to renewed violence in Kawardha when two groups got engaged in stone-pelting. The local administration prompted the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Penal Code.
