Karvdha: A massive case of irregularity has come up from Kabirdham district Pandariya block in which paddy of almost Rs 3.36 crore has gone missing from the procurement centres. Taking cognizance of the deficiency, the Kodwagodan purchase officer, Saraishet purchase officer and Baghra purchase officer came under the show cause notices of Katakodan purchase officer Pandariya SDM Sandeep Thakur.

The massive shortage was revealed by a joint Revenue, Food and Mandi department investigation. As per the official report, the shortage of paddy was reported to be 8440 quintals at kodwagodan, 497 quintals at Saraishet and 1906 quintals at Baghra. The missing paddy has a total worth of over ₹3.36 crore, with serious question marks over accountability and transparency in the procurement process.

Even after 20 days, no concrete action has been taken except issuing of notice to the concerned officers. This delay has caused concern to the public and sparked a hypothesis of cover-up or bungling. Whistleblowers and locals have been calling for swift action and making the required authorities accountable for the heinous act.

The administration is reportedly ready to hit back hard on anyone. But officials involved in the case have kept silent and offered no details.

The incident serves to underline the reason for the necessary development of monitoring systems and transparent purchasing practices in the government’s operations. Clearly, the use of public money and the livelihoods of farmers hang in the balance and therefore, such thorough investigations should be conducted, and those responsible must be brought to justice quickly.
