Lohardaga District, Jharkhand: Security forces in the Lohardaga district gunned down a Naxalite holding a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on Wednesday during an anti-Naxal operation in the Bulbul Forest area under Pesharar police station. This is the sixth encounter between security forces and rebels in the past week. So far three CRPF personnel were injured during the operation and many bunkers of the Naxals were destroyed, police said.

Notably, 400 Jawans of the CRPF along with the Jharkhand police have been carrying out an intensive search operation for the last one week. Sources report, the Naxals were confronted after moving out of their hideout to look for daily essentials on Wednesday. Heavy exchange of fire took place, as the police retaliated the attack by the Naxals using mortars and hand grenades and automatic weapons. Later, the Naxals managed to escape into the forest leaving back the dead cadre.

Security forces have been holding up the Maoists carrying out extensive search operations blocking all exits in the adjoining forests of Narayanpur and Bulbul. The search operation is being led by SP Operations Deepak Kumar Pandey and officers of the 209th battalion of the CRPF.
