Raipur: Natural paint will now be made from cow dung purchased under Godhan Nyay Yojana in Chhattisgarh. For this, preparations are being made to set up plants in the village’s Gothans. On the proposal of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Central Khadi and Village Industries Commission and Kumarappa National Paper Institute, Jaipur is ready for transfer of technology. After a while, the Chhattisgarh State Cow Service Commission will sign an agreement with these institutions for the transfer of technology. In the first phase, 75 Gothans of the state have been selected for setting up natural paint plants, officials said.
A unit of natural paint manufacturing cum carboxy methylcellulose manufacturing will be established here. The technology of manufacturing natural paint has been developed by Kumarappa National Paper Institute, Jaipur, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The main component of natural paint is Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC). About 10 kg of dry CMC is made from 100 kg of cow dung. CMC accounts for 30 per cent of the amount of natural paint. About 30 kg of dry CMC is required to make 500 litres of natural paint. It was told, Kumarappa National Paper Institute, Training will also be given by Jaipur.
The state government has started the Godhan Nyay Yojana in July 2020. Under this, cow dung is bought at the rate of Rs 2 per kg through Gothans. So far, approval has been given for the construction of 10538 Gothans in the state. Out of which 7714 Gothans are built and actively operated. 185320 cattle rearers are associated with active Gothans. The condition to purchase cow dung in Gothans is that the government has paid Rs 104 crore for the cow dung till September. Compost is made from this dung. Apart from this, Havan’s cow dung, dung lamps, decorative items etc. are also being made and sold. Recently, a project to generate electricity from cow dung has also started in some Gothans.
