Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has announced the inclusion of Mucormycosis under the  Ayushman Bharat Scheme. 

 It is reported that the state administration had forwarded a proposal to the centre in regards to inclusion of Black fungus under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.  In response to it, the centre agreed on our terms and included the post-COVID complication under the  Ayushman Bharat Scheme.  

 The infection is already included under the Chief Minister’s Health Assistance Scheme to financially support the patients, Dr Subhash Mishra, Director, Epidemiologic Control, Chhattisgarh informed.  

Under the scheme, all patients suffering from post-COVID complications are eligible for free treatment. Additionally, the state government has also provided a security cover of Rs 19lakh to the BPL category and 9 Lakh families of the general category under Dr Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme. Under this, the government bears the cost of treatment ranging from 50,000 to 20 lakh. 

Chhattisgarh reported its first case of Mucormycosis on April 21st, following which the state notified Mucormycosis an Epidemic under the Epidemic Act of 1987. Under the notifiable disease rule, no hospital or medical centre with the capacity to treat Mucormycosis can deny admission to patients. 

So far the state health bulletin reported 317 infections and 37 deaths. In the past 24 hours, 12 new cases were registered, out of which 3 succumbed to the post-COVID infection.
