The southwest monsoon has reached Chhattisgarh by entering through Dantewada on May 28, 2025. The IMD has put out a yellow alert for Bastar, Raipur, Bilaspur, and Surguja divisions, as well as in some other districts. Strong winds and heavy rain can be expected in isolated places, it indicates.

As the IMD reports, a warm low-pressure zone east of India is guiding the weather in this area. As a consequence, Chhattisgarh will see moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas on May 29 and 30. Yet, there may be fewer events of rainfall in the days after it stops. Highs are set to climb, with maximum temperatures predicted to rise by 2-4°C in the next 48 hours.

Because of a continuing low-pressure system in the northwest Bay of Bengal, the monsoon has entered parts of Chhattisgarh. The atmosphere has had powerful storms related to cyclonic circulation at altitudes up to 7.6 km, which lean southward as they rise. In the next 24 hours, cooler winds are expected to carry the system northwards into the northern area of the Bay of Bengal, where it may develop into a depression.

West of Rajasthan, above 0.9 kilometers above sea level, the trough line continues eastwards to Madhya Pradesh and northern Chhattisgarh. Cyclonic circulation is also present at a height of about 1.5 km over northeastern Madhya Pradesh.

During the past 24 hours, some areas in Chhattisgarh had light to moderate rain, and a couple of places had heavy downpours. The Bastar region saw far lower-than-normal maximum temperatures, and other divisions experienced slightly cooler temperatures as well. Pendraroad had the strongest maximum temperature (36.3°C) and the lowest minimum (22.8°C).

The next five days will bring rain to most of the state, including some heavy showers in only a few places.
