Misrule and Impolicy of govt takes Farmer’s Life”, accused former Chhattisgarh CM ; Ravindra Chaubey retaliates

Raipur: A heated political environment has been created in Chhattisgarh, centering on the suicide of a Kondagaon farmer.

Dr. Raman Singh, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh has taken to his Twitter handle to accuse the state government, which read – “Misrule and impolicy of the state government have taken a farmer’s life. And now, the insensitive government is on proving the poor farmer to be an alcoholic. The Chief Minister creating a farce of being a farmer’s son is not even ashamed of the incident”. Dhaniram (40), a farmer from Kondagaon, has hanged himself to death on Friday. Earlier, he had withdrawn a loan of Rs.62,000/- from the bank; but at the time of the paddy procurement, he received a token of selling just 11 quintals of paddy instead of his preparations for 100 quintals of paddy procurement.

It is said that the farmer ended his life because of mental pressure due to the loan he withdrew, while an investigation by the Sub-Divisional Officer of the area has revealed that Dhaniram was depressed for a long time due to his son’s death, and he often used to remain intoxicated.

On the other hand, Ravindra Chaube, the Agriculture Minister of the state of Chhattisgarh, has retaliated against the former CM, saying – “The protesting farmers have already been surrounding the national capital. Why doesn’t Singh post his opinion on this? Modi has been showering tear gas, water cannons, and what not on the protesting farmers; what does the former CM have to say on this? We are purchasing 90 lakh metric tons of paddy from the farmers in Chhattisgarh. Why is the former CM troubled about this fact? He has been a traitor to the farmers; he had promised to purchase their paddy on Rs.2,100 per quintal and give everyone a bonus of Rs.300/-, and later betrayed. Singh does not have the ethical right to speak about the farmers.”
