Bhilai: The wage settlement of SAIL executives and staff, including Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) personnel, was authorised by the Ministry of Steel on Tuesday. The company’s employees had been waiting for more than 20 days. The amount of arrears from April 1st 2020 to October 2021 has been initiated today which will be completed within 3 days. On October 22nd, SAIL management and NJCS member unions struck an agreement on employee wage adjustment. The proposal for officer payment was approved at the SAIL Board meeting on October 28th. Since then, the office staff have been waiting for the Ministry of Steel’s clearance.
The management had made plans to deposit the arrears in the employees’ accounts as early as November 3rd, and the updated grade-wise amount had also been computed. Employees will now be paid between Rs 25000 and Rs 2.5 lakh. The same officials will receive amounts ranging from 1.5 lakh to 7 lakh in arrears. In the BSP, there are 2000 officers and 16500 employees.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced 2 days ago that he would meet with the Union Steel Minister to resolve the issue. He reviewed the subject with the Union Minister the next day, and they agreed to sign the file detailing the sum owed. Devendra Yadav, a Bhilai MLA, has extended his gratitude to the CM for this. SAIL-BSP staff have been relieved after a long wait. According to reports, the wage revision arrears file was signed today.
