Raipur: Forest and Transport Minister Mohammed Akbar reviewed the arrangements for paddy procurement in the Kabirdham district today.  Reviewing the arrangements through video conferencing from his residence in Raipur, he instructed officials to wrap up the paddy procurement in the district within the stipulated time. They were also directed to operate smoothly and oversee problems faced by the farmers. He also asked them to ensure that no eligible farmer is deprived of the sale of paddy on the support price.

Besides these, he also gave instructions to respective authorities to lay down a proposal for the establishment of a collection centre at Surajpura to strengthen the procurement program in the district.

District collector Ramesh Sharma, who also attended the meeting informed that so far 4 lakh 14 thousand 841 metric tonnes of paddy out of the dedicated 103 metric tonnes was procured. Discussion on the lifting of Usna and Arwa rice was also done during the meeting.

The BJP on Monday organized a state-wide protest before primary cooperative societies seeking extension of paddy procurement in Chhattisgarh till February 15. The government had extended it till February 7. BJP leader and former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh staged a protest with party workers at the primary cooperative society in village Farfoud in Raipur.
