Raipur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested IAS officer Ranu Sahu of the Chhattisgarh cadre, in the District Mineral Fund (DMF) scam case. IAS Sahu was arrested just two days after ED’s Raipur-based unit arrested another woman officer named Maya Varier in the same case.
The probe by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was initiated based on an FIR filed by the Chhattisgarh Police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR was filed against the IAS officer for allegedly siphoning off exchequer money by DMF contractors in collusion with officials of the state government and political executives.
This case is related to corruption and misuse of funds from the District Mineral Fund in Chhattisgarh worth Rs. 100 crores. DMF is a trust funded by miners that has been set up in all districts of Chhattisgarh to work for the benefit of those affected by mining-related projects and activities.
Earlier on October 15, the Chhattisgarh government’s woman officer Maya Varier was arrested. ED has arrested Ranu Sahu and officer Maya Varierr in the alleged District Mineral Foundation i.e. DMF case. Raipur’s Special Court has handed over Ranu Sahu to ED custody till October 22.
After the arrest, the court has ordered five days of ED remand for both of them. This scam is worth about Rs 100 crore. Ranu Sahu has been lodged in Raipur jail for the last one year. The woman officer was arrested after interrogation. Maya Warrior and Ranu Sahu have been arrested by ED on 15 October and 17 October respectively. Both are the main accused in Chhattisgarh’s District Mineral Fund (DMF) scam.
