A small domestic quarrel in Karmatra village of Khairagarh district resulted in a major law and order problem late in the night, turning the village and the adjacent police outpost into scenes of terror. At about the middle of the night, hundreds of angry Villagers rallied at the Jalbandha police outpost shouting their slogans and openly enquiring how the local police were working and responsive.

The case is between Bhupat Sahu and Tejeshwari Sahu, and it was a long-standing case without an adequate settlement. They claim that Bhupat Sahu had caused havoc in the village numerous times, and the police did not take an actual step during the early stages. It is this so-called inaction, they assert, which enabled the situation to get out of control.

Residents claim that multiple efforts were put towards solving the problem by holding village meetings and mediating, but the accused party still continued to threaten and provoke other people. On Tuesday night, the situation became extremely bad when they reportedly made open death threats, names were taken, and sharp weapons were shown, causing panic in the village. The news of fear was spread at a very rapid speed, and the people had to leave their houses and go to the police station seeking safety and an immediate response.

The police were also accused of being late in responding, which did not help resolve the crisis. This anger was so pronounced that certain slogans like Poli Murdabad were also hoisted within the grounds of Jalbandha police station, and this also brought serious questions to the law and order in the district.

Three people were apprehended by the police after complaints were made in from of them: Bhupat Das alias Saheb, Deepak Sahu and his son Suryakant Sahu. They have been addressed under Sections 170 and 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. But, as villagers assert, the arrests were done after prolonged pressure and long delays.

People in the area claim that they have been living in fear due to the constant threats that have pushed women, children and the elderly. Child school-going children and farmers are not safe either.
