The Gobra Nawapara in the district has been reported to have violated the state Model Code of Conduct, which is set to be implemented in the upcoming municipal and three-tier panchayat elections. According to the MCC rules, once the code is enforced, materials with political schemes must be removed or covered. However, they have several political plaques and posters of the Congress regime that are still visible in various parts of Nawapara town.

That they neglect to remove such materials is negligent and speaks ill of whoever is the current municipality official. The failure of so many residents to comply with MCC rules, which they had complained vehemently about, testifies to the bias of the current officials, including the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO), against the previous government. As a result, locals have increasingly lost trust in the possibility of free and fair elections.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has been asked by the residents of Nawapara to act immediately for the sake of impartiality in the election process. They demanded stringent laws against officials responsible for this oversight and wanted to shift such officers to another situation so that the integrity of elections remains intact.

Also responding, the Chief Municipal Officer of Gobra Nawapara, Pradeep Mishra, said his team was working round the clock to take down political plaques and posters. He says they’ve already removed or covered materials at 530 locations. But he also mentioned instances of locals tearing off coverings put over political plaques. Mishra said such locations will be revisited, and efforts will continue to cover or remove the remaining materials.

The need to prevent any such incident has been brought to the forefront by this incident, and stricter enforcement of MCC rules and prompt action should be taken to ensure a fair and transparent election process throughout the state.
