RAIPUR: In a big development, the number of MBBS seats in Jawaharlal Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur increased from 150 to 200 for the academic year 2023-24. The increase in the number of seats was carried out based on a report by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission.
The number of medical colleges in the country has increased by 54 percent in the last seven years and the future will belong to societies that invest in healthcare. Recently, 11 medical colleges were virtually inaugurated.
At present, there are 1.48 lakh seats, an increase of about 80 percent from 82,000 seats in 2014 India. In October 2021, the Prime Minister inaugurated nine medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh in the districts of Siddharthnagar, Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, and Jaunpur.
