Raipur: On the night of Wednesday, a major fire engulfed the Modern Rental Warehouse situated in the Chandak Complex, Gali No 01, in the Fafadih area of Raipur.
This fire was exceptionally serious as it required more than seven hours and 15 pieces of fire equipment, both municipal and private, before being extinguished. The firefighters visited the scene over fifty times to ensure that all flames in the area of Devendra Nagar police station had been put out and the operation had continued through the night. Fortunately, there have been no loss of lives in the unfortunate event, as it happened.
Whenever there is an alert of fire, the firefighting teams quickly head to the scene of the fire. However, the small alley and park disorder in the region was a strain in navigating the fire tenders in close proximity to the warehouse.
Three fire fighting engines were placed on the exterior to lower the temperatures and prevent the fire from expanding. However, after much effort, the firefighters did not give up and managed to cope with this problem.
Old scrap accumulated in huge stock at the warehouse for a long time, and a considerable portion of them was entirely burnt in the fire. The fire spread to almost the entire area of the warehouse and brought everything to waste.
Happened in a commercial godown house located in a residential area. It has raised many questions about safety norms and urban development in Raipur. It is now asking what such storage units are in populated regions and whether they are safe.
To this date, the authorities do not know what led to the fire, and the police have recently begun investigating the incident. Local governments are looking at their emergency procedures and are likely to consider the guidelines on how scraps and other waste are stored in residents’ homes. As in many other similar cases, the fire has drawn attention to the issue of further improvement of fire safety and construction of buildings that would not allow such hazardous operations in the future.
