Chhattisgarh: A 42-year-old male, died in an elephant attack in the Jashpur district today at 5:30 am. It is reported that Shyam Kumar Rohida. had gone out to a farm behind the house for defecation. The incident took place at Babusajbahar in the Tapkara forest area.
It should be noted that on Monday, a 45-year woman had also succumbed to an elephant attack, whilst on a bike with her husband. The couple tried to escape the attack. However, the woman died; whereas the husband succumbed to injuries.
The victim identified as Khijmati Bai was trampled to death by a herd of elephants on a road in the Gothan forest area near Bartoli Village situated 400 km from the fort.
The kin of the deceased was provided an instant relief amount of Rs 25,000, while the remaining compensation will be given after the completion of necessary formalities, officials reported.
Several incidents of human-elephant conflict have been reported in the past from the thick forested northern Chhattisgarh, consisting of Surguja, Surajpur, Korba, Raigarh, Jashpur, Balrampur, and Korea districts.
So far, 204 people were killed in elephant attacks as per the Forest Department.
