BEMATRA: Amidst simmering tensions post communal violence in Birnapur village, two dead bodies identified as father and son with head injuries near the violence-hit Biranpur village in Chhattisgarh’s Bemetara district on Tuesday, police said.
The bodies were found in Korwaay village, about 5 kilometers away from Biranpur, in the morning, Bemetara Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela said interacting with the reporters. The deceased were identified as Rahim Mohammad and his son Iduk Mohammad (34), both residents of Biranpur, officials said. Preliminary investigation reveals the father and the son were attacked when they had gone out to graze their cattle. However, a postmortem report is awaited confirmation.
Meanwhile, CM Bhupesh Baghel announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Bhuneshwar Sahu, 23, who was killed in the communal violence that spurt on Sunday. A govt job for a family member of the deceased was also announced.
Taking to social media, Baghel wrote in Hindi, “Biranpur incident is very unfortunate. The pain of the family of Bhuneshwar Sahu in this incident is a common pain of all of us. In the absence of Bhuneshwar, the protection of his family is the shared responsibility of all of us. Today, after meeting with the office-bearers of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Sahu Sangh, we have decided that a family member of Bhuneshwar will be given a government job and Rs 10 lakh,” The chief minister said he had ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident and sought a report within a week’s time.
Baghel also appealed to people to maintain communal harmony. “The maternal grandfather of Lord Ram, the home of mother Kaushalya, our Chhattisgarh state has been a stronghold of peace and harmony. We all have to maintain peace and harmony while fighting anti-social forces. It is the responsibility of every citizen. No one is above the law.”
