In a big development in counter-Naxalite activities, the police in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh arrested two active female Naxals, an act that has helped in crushing Maoist operations in the area. Accused Paro Hapka and Sunita alias Sangeeta Mandavi, both imprisoned, belonged to the Kutul LOS (Local Operating Squad) working under Maad Division, which is believed to be a Naxal stronghold.
The arrest happened in the deep forest in the territorial limits of the massive Kohkameta police station, where the security agencies had been carrying out a long-term anti-Naxal operation. Police officers said that the two women had been in several Maoist activities in the last few years. These are the local youth who join the Naxal movement, the extension of the so-called people’s government dubbed as Janatana Sarkar, propaganda by Maoists and the arrangement of attacks on the security forces.
The police also seized some stockpiles of weapons and bomb-making materials from the suspects during the operation. The other materials recovered are a 12-bore BGL (Barrel Grenade Launcher) gun, two BGL grenades, one tiffin bomb, one detonator, 24 pencil cells and other electronic parts suspected of being involved in the construction of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weapons.
According to the officials, the arrest is considered as a part of the crackdown on Naxal elements in the State, and it is an indication of the effectiveness of superior intelligence and coordination at the ground level. The police clarified that such an operation is meant not only to disrupt the activities of the Naxals but also to provide a safer future to the people of the tribal community living in these remote areas.
The state government is determined to bring back peace and development in the regions which have long suffered due to extremist activities with unending persistence. More investigations are already being conducted to reveal even more about the activities of the duo and their connections.
