The security forces have made a great break through on the war on the Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh, with 108 Maoist rebels of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee dropping their arms and surrendering to security forces. Some of those who yielded included 44 women cadres, and as a group they amounted to 3.29 crore announced by the government.

This is developed because the deadline of the Central government in eradicating the Maoist in the entire country is nearing with the deadline initially pegged at March 31, 2026. The press conference at Shaurya Bhavan Police Coordination Centre in Jagdalpur made the announcement of the surrender formally, through Arun Dev Gautam, the Director General of Police of Chhattisgarh.

According to the information received about the surrendered cadres and other sources, the security forces initiated operations in various areas and retrieved a huge amount of weapons and valuables in Maoist hideouts. Law enforcers confiscated 101 lethal guns such as AK-47s, INSASs, light machine gun (LMGs) and barrel grenade launchers (BGLs).

Besides the weapons, a lot of cash and gold were also recovered in the underground dumps by the security personnel. Cash and appox one kilogram of gold were discovered in the operation to the value of ₹3.61 crore and 1.64 crore respectively.

Some of the senior members of the Maoist were also among those who surrendered, including divisional committee members, as well, as commanders of several units of the insurgent organisation engaged in the Bastar region.

Authorities indicated that the surrender has been a result of the increasing influence of the rehabilitation program by the state government to ensure militants go back to the mainstream society. On this programme 2,714 Maoist cadres have turned themselves in Chhattisgarh in the last 26 months.
