BILASPUR: The Kotwali police on Tuesday nabbed the main accused involved in the violence that erupted during the Durga immersion on October 7th. The accused identified as Naveen Tiwari is said to have been the main culprit in the scuffle that broke out between two Durga Puja committee groups on who would perform the immersion.

Shortly after the ruckus at Sadar Bazar Bilaspur, Naveen was absconding. The police had launched a manhunt based on the inputs given by suspects nabbed during the scuffle. Acting on the information given by another accused arrested, police found Tiwari in Railway Colony Raigad. He is apparently said to have been hiding here since the police had arrested several from the spot on October 7th.

A video of the devotees pelting stones, destroying light fixtures, speakers and other equipment on the procession truck made rounds on social media.
