New Delhi: The unfortunate landslide incident on Wednesday night claimed the life of Bhilai’s brave Lieutenant Colonel Kapil Dev Pandey. Army personnel on Monday expressed grief to the soldier on his last rites where he was cremated with honours at the Barar Square Muktidham in the National Capital.

Kapil Dev was the brother of Bhilai Press Club Chairman Bhawna Pandey. The family of deceased soldier said in a statement that the incident relates to the Wednesday night whenl Kapil was on a video call with his family at the Army Base Camp. The death count due to this tragic incident has increased to 34 of which 23 are jawans of Indian Army. So far, 13 personnel of the Territorial Army and five civillians have been rescued and as many as 28 people are still missing as per the latest reports.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs each for the family of those died and 50000 for those injured. West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee took to her twitter to express grief over the incident saying that 9 jawans from West Bengal have died in the incident.
