Raipur: Lawyers took out a rally in the state capital on Friday demanding implementation of the Advocates Protection Act and appointment of lawyers as members in state’s boards and commissions. A large number of lawyers joined the rally and later they submitted a memorandum addressed to Governor Anusuiya Uikey and chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, listing their 21-point charter of demands.
The call for agitation was given by Chhattisgarh High Court Bar Association. Lawyers’ associations in districts and those practising in tehsil and revenue court also joined the agitation. Lawyers in Chhattisgarh are on the path of agitation after a tussle broke out between lawyers and revenue officials in the Raigarh district.
Alleging that lawyers had manhandled revenue officials, revenue and other officials went on a strike and subsequently a couple of lawyers were arrested in connection with the incident. Subsequently, the lawyers also staged protests at different places and burnt effigies of corruption in revenue courts besides filing public interest litigation.
