Mungeli: In order to speed up the investigations for the major accident that happened in the Kusum Steel Plant at Ramboad, Sargawan, a special investigation team has been constituted. SP Bhojram Patel has formed a six-team-member committee to further investigate the circumstances of the given event. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Navneet Patil will be heading the investigation, and the Station House Officer (SHO) Santosh Sharma has been assigned to lead the team. It has been instructed to wrap up the probe in 15 days, and it has been freed from other responsibilities to make its findings unprejudiced.

The tragedy occurred in the Kusum Smelters Private Limited power plant, where four labourers were trapped under a collapsed silo tank. Rescue operations carried out for the immediate removal resulted in the rescue of a labourer, Manoj Kumar Dhritlahre, who was rushed to a private hospital at Bilaspur. Unfortunately, the man died during treatment. Later, after lifting the rest of the huge silo construction debris, the bodies of three more persons were recovered.

The deceased has been named as engineer Jayant Sahu of Sarkanda, Bilaspur, Awadhesh Kashyap, a labourer of Taga village, Janjgir-Champa district, besides a labourer Prakash Yadav of Akoli village, Baloda Bazar district.

The government has promised a thorough probe of all circumstances surrounding the accident to identify the cause and to take responsibility. The sad event has elicited policy issues relating to working conditions and compliance with safety measures, especially in production activities. The local administration and police are extending full cooperation with the investigation team in order to provide answers and justice for the victims and their families. This has proven that there is a need for the societies within such industrial areas to enhance safety measures for the future occurrence of such disasters.
