Khairagarh: Preparations for the upcoming by-poll are underway in the Khairgarh constituency. Polling officials engaged for the day have departed as per the orders they received.
Around 291 polling stations have been set up for 2,11,540 voters and police personnel have also been deployed. The polling will begin from 7 am in the morning until 5 pm in the evening on 12th April.
A triangular contest is on the cards in the Khairagarh poll, which is being dubbed a semi-final ahead of the next year’s assembly poll in Chhattisgarh.
Khairagarh’s seat in Rajnandgaon district fell vacant following the death of sitting JCC (J) MLA Devvrat Singh.
The three-way contest is between Yashoda Verma from Congress, BJP’s Komal Janghel, and Narendra Soni, late Devwrat Singh’s brother-in-law, from JCC(J). Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is leading the Congress campaign with the ruling party leaders calling the contest a semi-final. Mr Baghel took on BJP leaders declaring “Kaka is alive”.
